Self-Love: You are great! You are doing your best. There is no one else like you. When was the last time you sought some love from the most important person in your life; you? When was the last time you looked in the mirror and appreciated who you are? Did you know that what you have been through made you who you are today?
For many of us, the ‘love of self’ aspect of building confidence is the hardest part. I’m not talking stroking your ego. I’m talking; coming to terms with who you are and appreciating the journey that you’ve gone on to be the person you are today. Self-love is less about the narcissistic approach and more about getting to grips with who we are. The more we understand about ourselves the brighter our future will look.
But why? Why is it important to love who we are? It’s important because when you love YOU, you push the boundaries for everything in your life. Not loving and believing in who you are means you are setting limitations to what you can do before you’ve even left the starting gate.
Here are a few easy things you can do every day to appreciate who YOU are:
Begin every day with something positive. When you start the day on a great note, you’ll carry that throughout your day. Positive affirmations can be anything from telling yourself you’ll nail that presentation to complimenting yourself on the way you look. Yes, it’s great when other people tell you something positive, but it means something different when you tell yourself.
What Goes In
Positively and happiness is not just something you see on the outside. It comes from within. When you feel good, you’ll also look good. The key to starting this is by eating well. Looking after yourself means also looking after what you put into your body. You don’t need to change your diet, you just need to make positive choices. Drink more water instead of another cup of coffee or an apple snack instead of reaching for the bar of chocolate.
Move your body EVERY DAY. I’m not saying you need to hit the gym. I’m talking dancing in your kitchen, running with the children, or going for a walk after work. When possible take the stairs, enjoy the joys of movement. When you’re sitting at your desk remember to stretch.
Those Around You
Most of us only have a small circle of people we are close to. Make sure that those around you are looking out for what’s best for you. Make sure they have your best interests in mind and make sure they align with your goals in life. You can’t be positive in your life when you surround yourself with negativity.
Loving yourself will be hard, but it will be oh, so worth it. You need to start making choices that are best for you and for what you want out of life. These four simple things are only the start. They are small steps but remember your self-love journey will be long and even the smallest of steps will count in the end.
