If you’ve been following my blog you would have seen my series on colours and how to wear them correctly, today we’ll focus on Wearing Yellow. The first in this series was helping you unlock the phycology behind the colours you choose to wear. One of the colours I focused on in the post was yellow. I love the colour yellow and today I want to teach you a little more about yellow. We’ll go over how to wear it and how to make sure you get the best out of your yellows.

When we look at various colours and how to best wear them we find that yellow is always a great choice for accent clothing pieces. In the psychology of colours yellow is associated with hope, happiness, positivity, clarity, and energy. It enhances concentration and helps activate the memory, it encourages communication, builds confidence and stimulates the nervous system.

Yellow and Your Skin Tone

Those with warm skin tones are best suited for wearing yellow as more than an accent colour. This is because yellow falls on the warm side of the colour wheel. We can associate warm colours with reds, oranges, and corals which are also found on the warm side of the colour wheel. But, if you do not have a warm skin tone, you can still pull off yellow. You just need to make sure that you accentuate with yellow on a more down-toned level. This can be done by adding a few yellow elements to your outfit.

All Dressed Up In Yellow

Wearing a yellow dress is the best way to make a statement. Wearing yellow in the form of a dress is the best way to make sure you stand out at a summer event. Yellow is also a great colour to wear to the beach or the next family braai. If you’re opting to wear a yellow dress you may want to tone down on wearing bold accessories. Yellow dresses are amazing when paired with neutral colours including white and black.

Adding a Splash of Yellow

Some won’t want to be as bold when wearing yellow and that’s great too. There are many other options to choose from when wearing yellow. Yellow blazers are a great way to add an exciting pop of sunshine to your outfit. Pair the blazer with black pants, trendy jeans or even a striped skirt to really make a statement. Wearing a yellow top can be equally striking when paired with jeans or other pants in neutral colours.

The Shy Yellow

If you find that wearing yellow in a solid form is a little too much you can always opt for yellow in stripes or minimal patterns. You can also find other really great ways to wear yellow such as a yellow tank top with a black blazer. Always remember that although yellow is bright and airy, it really doesn’t have to be an in your face kind of colour. There are many different variants of yellow including mustards and pastel yellows.

Stepping Out In Yellow

Another great way to make a statement with yellow is through yellow shoes. Wearing yellow shoes adds an element of fun to any outfit. When choosing to wear yellow shoes you can opt to be a little more daring by adding a matching bag or light sweater to your outfit. Regardless of how you choose to wear yellow, you’re bound to make a happy impression.
